when mdm azizah asked us if we were tired while we were in the lift just after we knocked off, i was the first to snap : "NO!"
i find my work more and more challenging as we rush to meet our quotas amongst high absenteeism in our team. everyday i'll try to learn a new technique of scanning with my 3520 from Jenn and Shawn, to make myself more productive. don't really bother if other ppl do less and get paid the same cos as usual, doing alot gives a great sense of satisfaction. take for today, i scanned 12.1k images, (checked from the report generated by the server) a bit more than jenn's expectations of 10k per day. and its really a nice feeling actually.
i think if i spent one more year in the office, i'd start getting a lot of ideas on
nanoeconmics. does this term exist? something even smaller than microeconomics lol. and i tink jenn does it quite well. last week i had an idea of making a box to contain all the removed staplets, and pins so it will not lie all over the table which sort of disrupts our mobility of files and papers. CH knew how to make one, and so he did. 2 hrs later jenn came down, saw the idea and told CH to make more for every table.
also, in our workplace, scanner's speed is fixed cos there's only 4 scanners but much more file prep people. so i thought of ideas to "transfer file prep productivity to scanner's productivity". of cos the most basic way is to have the file prep ppl show some quality! so scanners dun have to meddle with the files again. 2nd way was abit insignificant : to have the file preps stamp chops for the scanners. the same day i had the idea, jenn implemented it.
of course, now the file prep ppl have their own idea of specialisation : one grp doing sorting and other doing the removal of staplets and seperating booklets. dunno whether it works though.
becos jenn can't be ard all the time, xm is appointed our team leader. team leader sounds noob but the responsibility is heavy. he liases with the HSBC INSC ppl who probably have decades of experience ahead of him. i tink this is gd experience for him too. he has to learn a lot of things which is pretty macro in comparision with my learning to increase my scanning speed, lol.
other
nanoeconomic thingys i think include the need of an abundance of stationary. when there's not enough staplers or staplets, scotch tape, rubber band and ppl walk ard borrowing from each other, some pdtivity is lost! worst case is when one of them completely runs out altogether. then production halts. that almost happened to our rubber bands. (needed in file prep.)
what is work really? more like a living classroom where im the teacher and student, and so are my counterparts. although these are just some nitty gritty things. i also can appreciate what Jenn does and plans to do. even putting pressure on us to do faster while at the same time joking with us and treating us things can be a significant kind of nanoeconomic mgt there. probably means, wanting us to take charge and pride of our own work while boosting our morale. powerful. seeing is believing - such small things actually matters a lot.
learning doesn't stop at work cos i read the newspaper everyday on my way home, kill time and relief boredom too. life is more enriching this way too.
maybe...i found my happiness at work. *shrugs*
