I woke up, with a thought in my mind - today shall be the day i set a new record for my scanning speed.
but i really did - a gruel battle - restraining thirst, hunger and bladder, and my need to converse. withstood backache, shoulderache and muscle ache, with determination - all for just one goal - a new record of 12 boxes. (last best record = 9 boxes, 16.3k images)
in doing so, i pulled CH along to set a new record for himself too. coincidentally, Shawn was doing pretty fast too. So, just before lunch at 1pm, we've already neared our (total) daily quota of 32k images for the 4 scanners.
yet towards the end of the day, i fought alone for Shawn has left early and CH had to do filing. i felt quite...drained. its like sitting there just repeatedly acclerating my hand-eye-brain motion and co-ordination with my 3520 machine.
finally - it was 9pm, as i completed my last box. the report - i overshot my own aim of 12 boxes; i did 13 boxes instead, with a total of 21.8k images! my whole day's work paid off - i see the results for myself. it was already more than double the daily quota of 10k.
oh yes, i did for the love of my country. increase productivity, increase AS for the benefit of the economy. oh and i reduced the GPL too.
i remember, the 1st day at winsland house, nobody thought scanning 10k images a day was possible, neither me shawn nor xm, who have a little experience in scanning before. we thought Jenn's expectations were unrealistic - just meant to push us to do faster. the first week, scanners on the 3520 would only manage 7k or 8k per day.
this time round i helped my boss make extra money, but once again prove to myself that nothing is impossible...and in fact i can do more, ideally, if i skip lunch! Errrr...no. that would be...insensible. =/
should i learn more out of this, i will seek to hit 25k. just one more time. but not within this week cos i feel so exhausted - should have tried on a Friday instead of a Monday.
and then i chanced upon another article in Today after work which convinced me that i im in the right job! frm Today, monday 26 feb pg 19, by Mr Lim Yian Poh, CEO of Executive Campus, his answer to "how can a person tell if he is in the right job?"
- "If a person wakes up in the morning and can't wait to start the day's work, it is pretty safe to say that he is in the right job. He get's a lot of satisfaction from his work. He does not look at advertisements for other jobs. Instead, he looks for opportunities to expand the scope of his work and to increase his contribution(to the company). He does not hesitate to share his experiences with his colleagues. He does not watch the clock. Salary and rewards are importance but are not the main consideration." -
are you in the right job? hmmmm...
on another note, my parents are back from Japan! finally. i was quite curious so i asked alot about their trip, while browsing the photos from their camera. my mother bought alot of candies and snacks. i ask her, how you know if these nice to eat...?
she said "I asked the ppl there, (holds the item) Oishi?"
"then they'll reply : "Oishi neh!" , then i'll buy"
"wth? then they point at everything and say Oishi neh how?" O.o...
but its really alot of stuff. everything looks exquisite with the packaging. and then there's sushi shaped erasers, a large sheet of cuttlefish in a yen note, lots of sweets!
